D. Summers Clarke, II

LITIGATION

Summers Clarke is a Partner in the firm’s litigation division with a practice focusing on personal injury, wrongful death, defamation, premises liability, products liability, transportation, business disputes, and construction defects. Navigating a clear path for her clients to achieve a successful outcome is always a priority as is devising a litigation strategy to seek an efficient resolution.

 

Summers holds admissions to the South Carolina Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She is an active member of the Charleston County Bar, Defense Research Institute, Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and the South Carolina Bar, where she has served on the Judicial Qualification Committee and the Special Olympics Committee.

 

Shaping future legal and community leaders fuels Summers’ passion for giving back. A longtime South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association member, she currently serves on their board of directors. She is also a Litigation Counsel of America Fellow, an honorary society bestowed on less than half of one percent of American trial lawyers. Through her work as a Gibbes Art Museum Society 1858 board member, Summers supports educational and social initiatives to nurture the next generation of art patrons.

 

In recognition of her litigation skills, Summers is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and holds an AV preeminent Martindale-Hubbell rating, representing the highest level of professional excellence. She has also been named among the South Carolina Legal Elite since 2021.

 

A Florence, South Carolina native, Summers earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flager Business School and her Juris Doctor at the University of South Carolina. Before joining Luzuriaga Mims, LLP, Summers clerked for the Honorable C. Weston Houck of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina has and practiced at Charleston law firms for over 15 years.
